Workplace organizers mega-thread

Are you ready to commit to organizing your workplace? This is the thread for you – for members of this forum actively working to organize their own workplaces.

In this thread, post:

  • Your commitment to organize and plans for doing so
  • Regular updates on your progress – challenges you’re facing, successes, setbacks
  • The next actionable steps you will take to organize and improve your workplace
  • Mutual support and encouragement for the above

When posting about your efforts to organize, you are encouraged to write at some length – aim for at least 100 words. As you work over the coming months and years, you can look back on this thread as a kind of journal of the progress you and your colleagues are making, and of the community’s efforts as a whole.

Your first post

If you’re just getting started, welcome! You should aim to spend 20 to 30 minutes writing your first post – get detailed. Here’s some things you could mention in your first post:

  1. Your reasons for organizing, and what led you to the decision to get personally involved
  2. Some of the specific challenges you face in your workplace
  3. Comments, support, or feedback for other recent posters in this thread
  4. Any steps you’ve already taken to build solidarity in your workplace
  5. The next actionable steps you will take. Here are some examples:
    • Studying labor laws in your area – your rights and the process of unionizing
    • Setting up a board game night with your colleagues to build community
    • Starting a group spreadsheet to compare compensation packages across your company
